Garden waste

Where it usually goes

Bedding from small plant-eating pets (straw, hay, sawdust) can often go in the garden waste bin or compost. Cat and dog waste cannot. Check your council.

Garden waste bin or home compost, if your council offers it.

Step by step

  1. Use your garden waste bin if your council offers one (it may be a paid subscription).
  2. Compost it at home, or take it to your recycling centre.

Check your council’s rules

What goes in which bin, bulky collections and recycling centre rules are set by your local council. Find your local council on GOV.UK ↗
